Digital X-rays
Dental x-rays are a common diagnostic procedure that are considered extremely safe. They are used diagnostically to help dentists see issues that are otherwise nearly invisible to the naked eye such as areas of decay including those in between teeth or under a filling, bone loss associated with gum disease, abscesses, (which are infections at the root of the tooth or between the tooth and gum), tumors and changes in the root canal. Without an x-ray, many of these problems could go undiagnosed. With an x-ray as a reference, dentists are also better equipped to prepare tooth implants, dentures, braces, and other similar treatments.
Digital dental x-rays have very low doses of radiation and greater efficiency. These pictures would be available instantaneously. Images quickly appear on the computer monitors in our treatment rooms, and they can be instantly shared for consultation by our dentists. These images can be e-mailed to other specialists, doctors or insurance anywhere in the world. This collaboration with our colleagues helps us to treat our patients with the most up-to-date ideas and methodology.
Many patients have expressed a desire to obtain their annual cavity-check images without placing a film or sensor inside their mouths. At One Centre Dentistry, we utilize Digital Planmeca Promax 2D technology. This machine can obtain images digitally without placing anything inside the patient’s mouth, thus avoiding triggering patient’s gag reflex. In addition to increased patient comfort, this technology offers a lower dose of radiation, digital storage and transmission of the images, immediate viewing of the image on a computer or TV monitor, and faster treatment times. Our patients love the new pain-free method of obtaining images. Dental check-ups just got a little bit easier.
